MHS Debate Team - Online Discussion Forum

Welcome to the MHS Debate Team online discussion forum. Each week, we become closer to our ultimate goal, which is to have an intellectualy stimulating and competitive debate team.

Debaters must have several skills. Naturally, they must be able to develop and present a logical and coherent argument; they must be able to respond to someone else's argument, and they must be able to find, understand, and incorporate information from sources. We hope that this online forum will allow us to practice all of these skills.

Throughout the year, we will ask you to complete a variety of assignments. We might ask you to develop a Lincoln-Douglas or Public Forum argument, to find, summarize, and evaluate a source, or simply to weigh-in on a hot-button current event issue. We will share our responses to these assignments in this forum.

In the meantime, we want to learn about you and your impressions of high school debate. Why did you join the team? What do you hope to get out of it? Do you want to compete, or just be part of a club that forces you to consider current events? Of course, when you answer these questions, we need you to be honest. We can only move forward as a team if we all understand our collective and individual goals. There is no length requirement for this assignment, but you should try to keep your response below 400 words. Please respond by Tuesday night at 8:00pm.

Let's get to work!
